Creating an Imaginary World – Theatre

Bertie Pearce

Theatrical scene design is one of the most varied, lively and beautiful art forms from Temple to playhouse.  Looking at the relationship between actor and audience, we will move from the Greeks to Commedia dell’arte and the Elizabethan stage of the Globe to Drury Lane.

Bertie Pearce

Bertie Pearce, a Member of The Inner Magic Circle with Gold Star, has performed magic across the globe in renowned venues like The Magic Castle in Hollywood and The Kulm Hotel in St. Moritz. His theatrical productions, such as Soiree Fantastique at The Magic Circle and All Aboard – The Comedy of Cruising at London’s Bridewell Theatre, were met with sell-out success. Collaborating with his sister Boo, he delighted audiences with A Spoonful of Magic at Wimbledon’s Polka Theatre and Wonders of the World at the Brighton Festival Fringe. A sought-after entertainer for private parties and fundraisers, Bertie has earned prestigious accolades, including the Carlton Comedy Award from The Magic Circle and two Originality Awards from The International Brotherhood of Magicians.

Bertie’s love of magic began with his grandfather, a skilled amateur conjurer. With a BA in Drama from Manchester University and training at the Ecole Internationale du Théâtre Jacques Lecoq in Paris, Bertie honed his craft through pantomimes, summer seasons, and four years on cruise ships, which inspired his comedic show All Aboard. Since 2009, as a Arts Society-accredited lecturer, he has toured widely, sharing his passion for magic, Victorian pastimes, Punch and Judy, and Charles Dickens.
