The Bayeux Tapestry: An Embroidered Tale...
Mark Cottle
"The Bayeux Tapestry - one of the most enchanting pieces of narrative art in existence" (Talbot Rice) is unique and a magnificent survival of a time when wall hangings were seen in the homes of the wealthy and powerful. It tells of the heroic tale of the Battle of Hastings in graphic detail. The style and high-quality needlework are deemed to be English, known throughout Europe as Opus Anglicanum. With the promise of the tapestry coming to London in 2026, this talk will be a timely change to the Programme.
